This tournament was a lot of fun, and I definitely plan on coming back for more. I probably won't be able to make these too regularly, since I live in Flagstaff and rely on outside sources for rides (Which is why I gave a B to reachability). The reason for the B rating on scenarios is because of the custom scenario. Although the custom scenario was fun, and it seemed like it was well-playtested, I'm still a little iffy on the idea of custom scenarios being played in tournaments sponsored by Hawk. It worked really well in a tournament this small, but if there had been too many more people, there is always the possibility, however remote, of a situation that wasn't accounted for that could break the custom scenario. By break, I mean that there might be certain situations where a specific matchup between factions give one player an advantage or disadvantage depending on the scenario. This sort of came up in the Recon Plus mission where two focal points showed up on my opponent's side of the table, with the third one on my side. Due to my faction being PHR, it was an uphill battle to get to his focal points. I was ahead of my opponent for most of the game, but the focal points won the game for him. I'm not saying it was a bad scenario per se, but it was frustrating to see a clear victory pulled out because of two extremely lucky die rolls. The focal points showed up at a point in the game where I didn't have time to demolish the buildings with my Enyos. Overall, it was an excellent match, but it can be demoralizing to be in the lead for most of the game only to be beaten in the end by the dice. I'm a firm believer that tournament scenarios should be based more on skill than luck, and that they should not give advantage or disadvantage to certain factions. Just something to think about for future custom scenarios, if they show up. Other than that, everything was top-notch. I almost gave the opponents' army lists category a B, but then I realized that the issue wasn't with overpowered lists, but that my list wasn't as competitive as the others. It was a solid list, but I've already found ways that it could be better for a tournament. You can bet that the next time I'm there, there will be adjustments made and a couple models swapped out.
