Hi guys,

Great tournament and I will be coming back next year!

One judge is not enough for this event. I had no problems with the terrain set up, nice pieces, but they were a bit big on some tables. Using the map pack to get a nice and even set up, or maybe to get an idea of how to place the terrain could be great idea. I do not see it as a must.

Keep up the good work!

Hey Maarten and crew!

Quick rundown of my own opinion:
I love you guys for organising this tournament (and I look forward to next year! )
As an organiser, I have faced a few of the issues addressed here already. A lot of people are harsher than they should be.
This event doesn't only cost you a lot of time on the weekend itself, but also in preparation.
A few of the comments (terrain/food/...) are valid, but not game-breaking.
I talked about the terrain with Rob on Sunday. Most of your tables are themed. You can't just split those tables up.
On top of that, adding the map-pack from T9A adds a layer of complexity and time to the preparation of your event.
On the topic of judges: yes, 1 is not enough. Jellen and I hate judging Challenge each year :), we always want a third.
Playing is more fun, I have no idea how you can convince your people to judge instead of playing.

Everyone wants a perfect event. We all do. I don't expect anything but a nice day, with nice people and a nice game!
Your event gave me everything I wanted.
You can improve, and that's why I'll love Conflict even better next year!

zou zeker volgend jaar terug gaan

thx connect'r for organize the event.
We will try to be with so many again next year.

I'm disappointed with this tournament.

My first two game were tainted by two erroneous decisions.

First battle : I can make a normal charge with random movement if i contact a ennemy unit. I can make a wheel in my charge movement. The decision is: not you can't. It makes me loose objectives and important units.

Second battle : A pursuing direction is calculed with the center of the units. The player don't choose his direction. The decision is: He can pursuing with a choosed direction (Straight ahead)... I loose my DS and the game with this decision (probably 20-0 for me without this).

I accept the referee decision just because i'm tired of fighting for a "basic rules" (for me). I understand that it is not easy to arbitrate a tournament and i'm realy sorry for this comment but 2 times in the same tournament is not pleasant for me :(

I agree with other guys for the table terrain & scenery.

Comment of the organizer(s):
Hi Tcho thanks for your feedback, appreciated. Sorry to hear you feel bad about this. I can only say that after re reading the rules I still stand behind my choices of Sunday. If you want to discuss on this we can do this over mail or pm, feel free to contact me.

Many thanks to the Connect'r team for organizing this 9A tournament!!

A couple of positive items that I wish to outline.. and less ones..

+++

+ coffee is great when arriving early.. the bar in general..
+ pasta at lunch (compliment from an Italian guy.. you did not notice it, but I had taken my own Parmesan cheese from home :o) )
+ overall friendly atmosphère
+ players from all around Belgium as well as abroad (NL, DE, ..)
+ prizes for top10 players
+ countdown clock on projection screen

---

- tables terrains & scenery: don't like "themed" tables (all jungle.. all desert.. ).. also, some pieces of scenery were far too large. I would strongly recommend you for future tournaments to use the "Fantasy Battles - Map Pack" in order to build balanced battle fields.

http://www.the-ninth-age.com/filebase/index.php?file/255-fantasy-battles-map-pack/#versions

- judge not available when needed :o(
- time schedule: extended lunch delay made that the 2nd game was very short (only played 3 turns)

Looking forward next year 17th Conflict and possibly for other intermediate "internal" tournaments.

Comment of the organizer(s):
Hi Skarloc

Thanks for the feedback. We'll definitely do something about the scenery (we have been using this scenery and set up for 7 years now and never had any complaints, but it is clear we need to work with balanced scenery maps next year). We will try to provide more judges and have a poll about the length of the games.

Very nice of you to host tournaments! A lot of players, three nice games for me, 10 prize is also nice.
The screen displaying the time is great also.

I have however a few remarks that could be used for future tournaments:

- Tables are really beautiful, with themed settings (jungles, dwarven holds, ruined towers...). However, they are not that playable for a "fair" game: little or no variation in the terrain types (all impassable, all forests for example). 9th edition is sensible to this way of balancing, I think it really harms the game.
Maybe simply mixing tables could be a solution: jungle + ruined landscape for example could produce two very nice tables: beautiful and more interesting in terms of game-play.

- Judges were not so up-to-date with respect to basic rules. This is not a problem if they take time to check in the rulebook. Everybody needs to learn at one point but they should really try to go in the deep of the rules, while staying unmoved by both players. They could also elect to take advice from other judges, "renown" club members (not concerned by the rule issue) or even players on other table. These other players might simply point the correct page in the rulebook. I heard a lot of mistakes during judging decisions.

- Timing for game 2 and 3 was very very very short. I'm not a fast player but I'm not slow either. Second we rushed (and I stress this point, we really were fast) and managed to do only 5 turns (which is acceptable). For the last game we were both slower (last game effect) and managed only 3 turns. I don't know how others feel but 2h30 is far too short.

- Pastas were a bit too salty for my taste, but this is highly subjective :)

Again, thank you for taking the time to organize a tournament :)

Comment of the organizer(s):
Thanks Sire

We promise to improve on the scenery as stated before.
Sorry to hear about the judging and surprised you heard a lot of mistakes, I had my e-rulebook with me and was checking everything I wasn't a 100% sure off. We have to improve because judging needs to be spot on but otherwise I can not recall having to judge a lot on your tables and I think people should only speak about situations they were in themselves.
Timing for our fantasy tournament has been 3H for the first and 2h30 for second and third battle for quite some time now. We can increase this for sure but keep in mind that this makes it a long day for everyone (especially people who travel from far and the organization).

We'll figure something out for the lunch next year, hope to see you next year

Dear Connect'r Team,

Not fan of it, but it will be a sweet and sour comment.

Globally I had a great time, facing nice opponents and had a lot of fun. Many thanks for organizing such a big tournament.

However, I encoutered several issues, which has mitigated the overall feeling that I had a the end of the day :
- First of all, tables and sceneries were cool and beautifull, but the mapping was quite poor. For the next tournament, please use the official Map pack - It avoids discussion and ensure balanced table. Got two times a nice table, with 5 hills, and basically no other sceneries.
- Even if Maarten did a great job, only one ref' is not enough. For an event gathering almost 40 peeps, think that mini 2 refs is necessary.
- Maybe my main issue, pairing on the second game was a mess. Me, sadly scoring 0/20 on the first game, facing a guy that has scored 5 points, because bonus point for army list were included in the calculation is a pitty. Especially taking into account that I've brought the light 2 time on this matter (one before the re-calculation and obviously after the calculation).

Well, it seems a bit dark, but I keep no grudge. Shit happens, just trying to share my input in order to get an even better version next year :)

A big thanks to Xander, Guy and Loeke - 3 great and nice opponents. And thanks to all the Connect'r team !! - except Rob, I am bored seeing him always at the top ;)

Comment of the organizer(s):
Thanks for the comments Strauss no hard feelings as we can only try to improve.

We will provide balanced scenery maps next year.
We will try to fix extra judges, not easy as most people want to play themselves
Apologies for the pairing for R2, there was a mistake which was my bad. However when you brought this up too much time had passed to make a new pairing. 2,5H per battle was already tight as some others mentioned.

Hope to see you next year
#2kiwii

Great tournament. Only issue was wait times for the food were a bit long.

Comment of the organizer(s):
Thanks
Next year we'll try something else for the catering to decrease the rush cue
#1Haemoglobinz

Some of the tables had some strange and sometimes frustrating terrain setups. For instance table 18 had a huge Hill in the middle of the board which I could use as a screen against just about everything my opponent had.

Otherwise a very fun tournament, count me in next year ;)

Comment of the organizer(s):
Fair point on the scenery we will improve that next year as the others suggested with varied scenery maps
